- “James moved to Macomb in 1939.
“He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II. He received the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts and spent a year in the hospital following the Battle of the Bulge.
“He was advertising manager for the Macomb Journal from 1941 to 1953. He ran the Sears-Pumo Insurance Agency from 1953 until 1974, when it became the Pumo Insurance Agency. He retired in 1985.
“He was a 66-year member of the Macomb American Legion and Macomb VFW. He was also a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Macomb and Macomb Elks Lodge 1009, where he was past exalted ruler. He served as state treasurer for Illinois Elks Crippled Children Commission. He was a founding member of the Macomb Downtown Development Corporation.
