- Fred was a graduate of Austin High School in Austin, Texas, and Texas A&M University in 1942 where he was a member of the polo team. From 1948 to 1955 he served as Secretary and building manager of Austin Savings Association. He moved to Odessa, Texas, in 1955 where he served as President and CEO of Home Savings Association. He also served as President and CEO of Petroplex Savings in Midland, Texas, for several years. He was a graduate of the Graduate School of Savings and Loan and was a pioneer in the field of computer applications for the Savings and Loan industry. He lived for a time on Long Island, New York, where he was President and CEO of Northport Savings and Loan Association. He subsequently moved to Houston, Texas, where he retired as Senior Vice-President of First City National Bank and Manager of the Real Estate Department. It was in this capacity that he oversaw the interim financing for the St. Luke’s Hospital in the Houston Medical Center as well as the Shell One and Shell Two Buildings in downtown Houston.
Fred was active in many civic associations in Odessa. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America, the highest award bestowed on a volunteer worker in Boy Scouts. He was a director of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, Odessa Real Estate Board, Home Builders Association, Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang and was a Director and member of Odessa Rotary Club. While in Houston he was active in the Houston Livestock Association and was honored numerous times for his extraordinary ability to sell Houston Livestock Association memberships and tickets.
Later in life he enjoyed raising quarter horses, gardening, and building things in his workshop. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Tomball, Texas. [1]
