  • Notes
    • “Gene attended school in Canton, Texas. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served several years during the Korean Conflict stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. Upon completion of his service, he moved to Lubbock, became a student at Texas Tech and was an avid Red Raider. With a degree in agriculture, he acquired a job with Lakeview Schools teaching ag. He met Mary Alice Beck, also a teacher at Lakeview, and married her in the summer of 1952. The family moved to White Deer, and then to Springlake-Earth, where Gene taught ag. Mary Alice taught mainly first grade. Earth is where they raised their family and greatly enjoyed their lives. Gene was a devoted teacher a wonderful husband and very involved father. He was lay leader at their church, Earth Methodist Church. He also taught adult Sunday school. Tennis, bike riding, camping, and going back to Tech were all avid activities he enjoyed. His church and family were his main focuses. His teaching was one of his greatest achievements. His latter years saw him teaching chemistry and physics. Gene taught for 54 years. He also made sure his children were at many Texas Tech games, for he sure liked those Red Raiders.” [1]
