Notes - Alliene “was a South Knoxville native, having grown up in the Mount Olive area. She was the daughter of Normal Edison and Elsie Burleson and worked in her father's grocery store across from Mount Olive Baptist Church. She was one of seven Burleson kids - sister to Carrie Margaret, N.E. Jr., Dolores, Joe, Randy and Nancy Lynn. Alliene was a graduate of Young High School, class of 1944, and helped organize many of the class reunions for the group. She was also a graduate of Knoxville Business School. Alliene was preceded in death by her husband, Layton N. Howell Sr., one month short of their 60th wedding anniversary and was a dedicated wife, homemaker and mother. Alliene was an avid golfer in the 1960s and 1970s at Beaver Brook Country Club and Bays Mountain Golf Course. She enjoyed flying across the southeast with Layton as he piloted single-engine planes and later found great happiness seeing the country in their RV. She grew up in Mount Olive Baptist Church and was later a dedicated member of New Prospect Presbyterian Church.” [1]
