  Buddy “was raised and lived in Clarks until he joined the service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, enlisting Sept. 27, 1943, in Shreveport, La. After returning from the military, Carter married Grace Helen Erwin, the daughter of Roy Erwin and Annie Seay of Ellis County, Texas.
