    Military Albert was living in Manila, Philippines, at the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. He subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Army on 22 Dec 1941. Although he had enlisted in the air forces, he was attached to the ground troops of the 1st Regiment 2nd Division Philippine Army and commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. He served through to the surrender of Bataan at which time he became a prisoner of war. He was imprisoned at Cabanatuan until he was one of 1,620 prisoners-of-war placed on board the Ōryoku Maru which left Manila on 13 Dec 1944. The ship was attacked by planes from the USS Hornet as it approached the naval base at Olongapo in Subic Bay. The ship sank on 15 Dec 1944 with about 200 prisoners dying at that time It has been estimated that Albert died on 9 Jan 1945. His name is listed on The Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines. There is also a memorial placed for him at Mission Burial Park South in San Antonio, Texas.
