    Military By 1917 Jackie had served 4 1/2 years in the U.S. Army Artillery. He enlisted in the army on 21 Jan 1909 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was discharged on 20 Jan 1912 at Fort Baker, California. He reenlisted on 9 Mar 1912 at Fort Crockett, Texas, and was discharged on 16 Sep 1913 at Fort Crockett.

    In 1917 Jackie was sent overseas as the commander of a company of troops. Upon his return home he was promoted to Captain in the National Guard. He was promoted to Major in the Texas State Guard in 1918 upon the state guard’s return to national control. In 1925 he is listed with rank of Captain in Co. C, 141st Infantry, Texas National Guard. He was promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1947.

    From 1922 Jackie acted as service officer of American Legion Post 155 in Robstown. During World War II he served as special investigator in charge of civilian defense for Nueces County.
