  • Notes
    • Louis was a member of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the Livestock Association. He was murdered as the result of an election dispute. He was the presiding judge of Precinct 64 and was at the school house at Posetas, about 22 miles from San Antonio, prior to the opening of the election booth. According to interviews following the incident, A. J. Saunders, a ranchman, arrived at the school house with possession of the ballot box. Mr. Saunders assumed he was the presiding judge and refused to hand over the box to Louis. Louis attempted to take the box and Mr. Saunders threatened to shoot him. Louis made another attempt with another warning from Saunders who also brandished his pistol. Louis lunged from the box and the gun and Saunders fired a fatal shot that struck Louis below the heart in the left lung. [6, 7]
