  • Notes
    • Edna’s passion and love were found in growing a family, growing friendships, and growing a garden. Growing a Christian family was her highest priority. She and both children were baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church in Floresville. She started her husband’s day with a warm smile, a kiss, and a warm cup of coffee. Her love for Walter could even be felt in the lunchbox that she prepared for him every morning that he made the trip to work in San Antonio. She was also active in instilling Christian values and a strong work ethic in her grandchildren. She also had a clever wit and a wonderful way with people which helped her grow many lasting friendships.

Edna had many interests including fishing at the coast, tending their small herd of cattle, and raising purebred dachshunds. She was particularly passionate about growing her gardens. She insisted that the rows in their garden be straight as if marked by a chalk line. Her face, and that of Walter’s, would gleam when people would pass in front of their house in Camp Ranch, west of Floresville, and comment on their beautiful gardens. Her vegetables and flowers were her pride and joy. She would spend hours tending the plants and removing unwanted weeds. Her efforts in the garden were rewarded with bountiful harvests and many jars of canned vegetables, jellies, pickles, and relishes. Even upon moving into the Regency Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center she took pride in sharing her passion for gardening with the center’s staff, residents, and visitors which culminated in Guenther’s Garden at Regency Manor.
