Notes - W. A. had been a resident of Texas since 1852, except for the years he spent in the army of the Confederate States of America. His family had moved to Austin when they moved to Texas. He moved to Waco in 1894. He was known by many in Waco, particularly for his Confederate service and for his generosity. In his later years he became active in promoting the proper display of the United States and Texas flags.
W. A. had been a member of the Methodist chuch since 1869. He was also a member of Pat Cleburne camp and Waco lodge of Masons. [3]
