  • Notes
    • Family history states that Tom Bell followed the trail of his father's murderer. It is believed that he followed him the Pacific northwest and later returned to Mississippi under an assumed name. He entered the service during the Civil War under the name James N. Rice, listing Quebec, Canada as his birthplace. He returned to Atascosa County, Texas several years later, using his real name.
