Notes:

Joseph Tumlinson came to Texas with his family as part of Stephen F. Austin's Colony. He received a headright in DeWitt's Colony which he located on the banks of the Guadalupe River immediately south of the boundary of present-day Cuero. The land was located next to the headright of Hephzibeth Taylor whose daughter Joseph married in 1834.

Joseph served in several capacities during the Texas Revolution. After the war was over, he settled near Eagle Lake, moving later to near Yorktown where he established a ranch and lived the remainder of his life.

Most of his life he served in the defense of the region to Indian and Mexican attack and general lawlessness.
